A photographic – video - art project exploring issues of identity, histories, space and time, on an overland journey from Birmingham to Beijing and Back on public transport.
by Richard Edkins & Karen Bristoll
Traveling overland, along ancient routes, watching the landscapes and peoples change, crossing borders - many of which were created on a whim: ‘lines in the sand’ by a powerful elite- we were made aware of what separates and connects us as peoples.
As the ‘War on Terror’ continued, a new name for the perpetual war, The journey questioned – and occasionally reinforced – the notions of nationality, and posed the question is the ‘nation’ a myth?
‘Environments’ explores themes of identity, histories, space and time. Recording and celebrating ‘the every day’.
